Round tables > Crossed perspectives on poetry translation
Crossed perspectives on poetry translation Friday, October 3rd from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM Centre des Colloques, room 3.01 Moderator : Graciela Villanueva (IMAGER, UPEC) Organisation : Armando Valdés Zamora (IMAGER, UPEC) Speakers : Olivier Brossard (LISAA, Université Gustave Eiffel), Marie Olivier (IMAGER, UPEC), Sergio Delgado (IMAGER, UPEC), Guillaume Contré (translator), Vincent Weber (editor and translator) Abstract : This round-table discussion proposes a dialogue on the challenges of translating poetry, crossing the perspectives of translators and researchers. Olivier Brossard will approach poetic translation as "gaining ground", an idea formulated by Emmanuel Hocquard, who defends the idea that each act of translation enriches the target language. Marie Olivier will share her experience of translating Louise Glück, a work that seeks to restore the depth and subtlety of the American laureate to the French language, and how this process can offer French-speaking readers a new form of access to North American poetry. Sergio Delgado, Guillaume Contré and Vincent Weber will explore the bilingual edition of the collection Le Gualeguay by Juan Laurentino Ortiz, an emblematic Argentine poet, demonstrating the role of translation as a meeting point between languages and cultures. Together, we will highlight the perspectives opened up by the translation of contemporary poetry, in its relationship to publishing and research. |
