Call for entries: "French research fields in Brazil" photo exhibition

The Institut des Amériques, as part of its biennial congress to be held from October 1 to 3, 2025, is organizing a photographic exhibition highlighting French research fields in Brazil. This exhibition is also part of the Saison France-Brésil 2025.

Why take part?

The aim of this exhibition is to celebrate scientific collaboration between France and Brazil, by revealing, through the lens of photographers, the places, faces and projects that are shaping the Latin American giant. Each image will be an opportunity to showcase these areas of innovation and collaboration.

The exhibition will be held at a strategic location during the Institut des Amériques congress, enabling it to be seen by some 100 Americanist researchers, as well as by the general public who may visit the Condorcet Campus.

Entry criteria:

   - Theme: The photograph must illustrate French research fields in Brazil. This includes, but is not limited to, research projects, researchers, and the landscapes and scientific environment in which the research takes place.

    - Format: Photographs must be submitted in digital format. Photographers must submit images in high resolution (600 dpi minimum) and in JPEG or TIFF format.

    - Authors: Any individual affiliated with a French university that is a member of the GIS Institut des Amériques is eligible to participate in this call for contributions. This includes Master's students, PhD candidates, and faculty researchers. Individuals enrolled in a joint supervision (cotutelle) program are also welcome to apply.

     - Number of photographs: Each participant may submit up to three photographs.

Selection of photographs :

The conference organizing committee will select the works that will be included in the exhibition. The authors of the selected photographs will be notified by email.

Exhibition and dissemination :

The selected works will be professionally printed at the expense of the Institut des Amériques. They will be exhibited at the conference center of the Condorcet Campus in Aubervilliers during the congress, from October 1st to 3rd, and potentially beyond (to be confirmed). The photographs may also be published on the Institut des Amériques' communication platforms.

Copyright and image rights :

The selected photographs will always be displayed and/or published with the name of their respective author.

If the submitted photographs feature identifiable individuals, it is necessary to obtain their consent for the use of their image in the exhibition. Participants must ensure that this consent is secured before submitting their photographs.

How to participate :

 - Submission deadline: May 1st, 2025

 - Required submission materials:

• A short presentation of the photographer and their research (max. 100 words)

• A description of each photograph (max. 100 words per image)

• A portfolio or a link to a website showcasing additional work (optional)
